OK, OK, so maybe Field of Dreams wasn't set in San Juan -- but Marmelade, an INCREDIBLE dining experience, IS! We had a FANTASTIC meal last night matched only by the INCREDIBLE wait staff and experience as a whole. They were so attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, polite, and the food was one of the best meals of our lives. Wow. Way to start it off, Puerto Rico!
We both chose the four-course tasting menu. Michael had the following: "popcorn" shrimp (not little fried shrimp; totally different), their famous white bean soup (best. soup. ever.); beef tenderloin over a 3-cheese potato au gratin; and finally berry cobbler. I (Meredith) had the following: lobster risotto; their famous white bean soup (still the best. soup. ever.); crusted snapper with curry and rice (to die for); and finally chocolate-raspberry beignets with dark chocolate laced with raspberry for dipping. We paired this with a bottle of Reisling (VERY tasty!) and Michael also chose the "wine pairing" option to add to his four-course choice. It was FANTASTIC and definitely one of the best meals we've ever had -- ever.
Afterwards, we tried unsuccessfully to call a cab and ended up just walking out onto the street right in front of an available one. Sweet! Took the cab back to the hotel and called it a night.
The forecast is calling for rain this week which I assume is pretty much an always thing for an island as they probably have showers every day, much like Florida, etc. because there's so much water. I'm hoping it's not out-of-the-ordinary amounts of thunderstorms, rain, etc., because I definitely am looking forward to some beach time! Even if it is, oh well, I'm sure we'll find someplace tasty to eat... or a spa to visit... shucks, we'd have to go to a spa.... ;-) Ha!
Tonight our dinner reservations are at Niche which promises to be fantastic, as well. Hey, what can we say, we like our food, and we DEFINITELY like our food when we travel. Isn't that the best part? :-)
